The Defector A Bridge Sword Prequel #03 Bridge Sword Series Book 14 edition by JC Andrijeski Literature Fiction eBooks Reviews

  • They broke him in ways that should have killed him. Unfortunately for Revik, he isn't dead yet.

In JC Andrijeski's fast paced, gritty, cyberpunk world, Seer's are a second race, toiling right a long side humans in a race to end the world. Powerfully telepathic, highly empathic, hypersexual, and prone to emotional volatility, iron clad control is ingrained into them from childhood. But what happens when that control is shattered by an outside source? What happens when large parts of the past that shaped that control are forcibly removed via intense psychic surgery? What happens when they steal your very identity?

We find out in this newest installment to The Bridge and Sword world. Revik, once an untouchable killer, has been broken. Left without his gifts, and only the vague memories of the shape of them in his life, he is terrified and angry. He has been ripped open and left vulnerable to the world and for five long years, he has hidden, trying to make sense of what he has left.

Circumstances brewing in his absence have hit a boiling point, and now a young woman he once saved is calling out from the darkness for his help. When a group of elite soldiers show up to recruit his aid, Revik will journey down the dark road of his past in order to, once again, save Kali's life.

This novel touches on what it means to truly sacrifice for the greater good. What do you give? Whom do you give? And how much are you willing to lose to save a life? The Defector is extremely rich in character development and culminates in a poignant, heartfelt ending that will have readers contemplating the answers given within for a good, long while.
  • I am thoroughly enjoying the Bridge & Sword prequels. Every time I discover something new, something interesting, I want to go back and re-read the series just so I can hit a point and say "Ah! That's why!" Defector is a story of the strength of will, of the courage to do what you must even if you lose everything you thought you had and everything you were. Reading it right after reading the preceding prequel, Trickster, helped so much fall in place. It also helped to shift my perspective from the high level of disquiet I felt reading Trickster into a more hopeful place. Trickster had elements that made me uncomfortable, which is in keeping with the main character - in a way, Defector shows the opposite side of a man's character. This series continues to engage and fold back new layers of character and action.
  • Poor Dalejam. Finding love and losing it. Revik is so blind to how others see him, he can't recognize desire and love. He doesn't have long to enjoy it. Explains so
much about the rest of the series
  • !! Received the ARC of this book in exchange for my honest and willingly given review !!

If you've read 'Trickster' and were wondering what happened to Revik during those events as we saw through the eyes of Terian. Here is your chance to see more of Revik and his story after going into the guidance of Baildor. * If you have read the series of B&S along with Quentin Black series you will see some similar names and faces, that I personally, very excited and happy to see. *

I was really happy with this read. We finally got that glimpse into the mentioned past relationship that Revik had before Allie (I don't want to name drop in case of a spoiler. If you know, you know). We got to see the 'pup' Revik was before he met Allie in Rook. ( I really appreciate this because he was talking all that crap to my baby Quentin.) Improving his sight, light, and construct (with wink wink) is just sigh. Revik wasn't always so confident and strong. I find this young broken version of him so precious and much needed as a balance. We also see some character growth and the emotional process as Revik tries to do some soul searching with and it's such a good read. The world Andrijeski has created has me feeling that it's real, touchable, and livable.

There are some triggers but the themes are mentioned in the book and if you're uncomfortable it is easy to skip through and still be caught up and still understand what is taking place. She does not go into depth if you're scared of vivid descriptions. It's such a spectacular read and should be apart of your collection. I love reading these little prequels and having the background history from the series. It ties together so well and cohesively, really love.
  • This is my favorite world to get lost in. I love coming back to it time and time again. This newly revised prequel about Revik was another great addition to this series. It was such an intense and revealing read and I loved how you can clearly distinguish between this Revik and the Revik from the last in the series Sun. The difference between them made it feel like they were two completely different characters. I also enjoyed having more back ground into Revik and Dalejems relationship and how much depth there was to it even though it was short. It made my heart break all over again for them. I thought this also provided great background for Reviks time in the Pamir and really showed what he went through for his penance. I highly recommend all of the bridge and sword books!
